Engagement pictures are some of the most important pictures you will ever take! They are normally the first professional pictures that you have done as a couple, and are the pictures that you will send out to friends and family to announce your big day. They set up the mood for your wedding and are pictures meant to capture the love that you have for each other. Because they are so important, they can sometimes seem a little overwhelming and stressful. But they don't have to be! Here are a few tips and tricks to help you feel prepared and relaxed for your engagement session.
Finding the Perfect Outfit
For the engagement session, we recommend bringing both a formal and casual outfit. This will help you to have a variety of images to choose from for your announcement. When choosing colors for your outfits, make sure to choose colors that look nice together and coordinate well. You don't need to match your outfits. Matching outfits will make your images plain while finding coordinating colors will help your images to pop! Choosing a color scheme may help to determine what colors you want to focus on coordinating. Be sure to find outfits that you feel comfortable in and feel represent your personality. This will help you to feel confident and more relaxed during the photoshoot. Most patterns are okay as long as they are not distracting and overwhelming. You don't want patterns to draw the attention away from you and your groom. Finding the perfect location is also a great first step in choosing the perfect outfits! Having a location in mind will help you to know the colors and styles that will match in the overall picture.
Finding the Perfect Location
There are so many beautiful location options for your engagement pictures! In the mountains among the pine trees, in a field full of aspens, by a lakeside, or in a golden field. Check out Pinterest or instagram for more location inspiration! If there is a location that is special to you, that can make your pictures even more special and help you and your groom feel more comfortable in a location that you are familiar with. But if you aren't sure of the location that you would like, that's okay! We have done so many engagement shoots and know of many gorgeous locations! But if there is something you are wanting, be sure to talk with us so we can find the perfect spot.
Preparing your groom
We know that many grooms aren't the biggest fan of taking pictures. But that's okay! We love to help grooms feel comfortable during the shoot. When grooms walk away saying "That wasn't so bad! It was actually fun", we know we've done our job! There are some things that you can do as well to help him feel prepared.
Make it a date: Do something fun afterward! Go out to dinner in your nice clothes. This will help your groom feel that you are getting dressed up for more than just pictures.
Choose an outfit for him that he feels comfortable in: This one was huge for my husband! Having clothes that he felt like himself in helped him to be more relaxed at the photoshoot.
Do something fun before your pictures: Slow dance, go on a run, listen to music. Anything to help your groom feel relaxed and prepared for the shoot.
Leave in plenty of time to get to the location: This will help to prevent any stress caused by running late. It will make for a better overall experience.
Be flirty during the shoot or think of things to say/ talk about to help him feel comfortable.
Promise him extra kisses ;)
